Step 1: Degree Pathways

Highline offers certificates, 2-year and 4-year degrees. Before you begin taking classes, it will be important to select classes that fit your personal academic or career goals. Take some time to learn about the certificate and degree options, and consider your career or transfer interests. Assistance is available through faculty and staff advisors and a number of services on campus. Here are two ways to begin exploring your options:

1) Degree Pathways are broad categories of related areas of study. Certificate and degree options, and course disciplines/subjects are organized so you can consider options based on your career interests.

2) The Academic Catalog lists all degrees and certificates, including the course options and requirements for each program.

Step 2: Career Assessments

The Career and Student Employment (CASE) can help you research and explore career fields. If you are undecided of a career or would like to research about salary, education or current labor information. The CASE Center offers career exploration tools, such as, the Washington Occupation Information System (WOIS) and Career Coach. To schedule an appointment, please visit the CASE website.

Step 3: Career Counseling

Career Counseling is a process that will help you know and understand yourself and the world of work in order to make career, educational, and life decisions.  Meeting individually with a Highline Counselor in the Counseling Center is helpful for when you may be stuck deciding between two or more career paths, and you are would like more in-depth career assessments. Counseling is also helpful when students need to talk about ways around societal barriers to their careers, realistically look at their abilities as well as limitations, and consider the family and cultural impacts on their career and life dreams.
